Not sure which one you need

Start with what you can see

Most people do not know whether they need a repair, a sealed unit or a new window. Choose the description that matches what is in front of you.

For your home

Residential glass services

Windows, doors, showers and mirrors. Most residential calls fall into one of three groups: something broke, a double pane window fogged up, or a room is being remodeled.

For your business

Commercial glass services

Storefronts, office fit outs and mirror walls, plus board ups when a window goes overnight and the premises cannot open.

The work itself

What the work looks like before you book it

Every service on this page runs through the same three stages: someone looks at the opening, the glass is cut to it, and it is fitted and checked before the visit ends.

  • A tall wall of black framed storefront glass along a concrete walkway, reflecting a parking lot
Storefront glass wall Black framed storefront glass wall A storefront glass wall with slim black frames. Each lite is set and sealed on its own, so one damaged pane can be replaced without removing its neighbors.
  • A tall retail display cabinet with glass doors and glass shelves holding rows of sunglasses
Cabinet glass Lit glass display cabinet A lit display cabinet with glass doors and shelves in a retail store. Cabinet glass is cut and edged so the doors close cleanly and the edges are safe to touch.
  • A retail suite with dark aluminum storefront windows, a double glass door and window graphics
Storefront doors Retail suite storefront and double doors Storefront windows and double glass doors on a retail suite. The tall fixed panes and the door glass are separate pieces in one framing system.

Useful to know

The glass types that come up, and when each is required

Knowing these four terms makes every estimate you receive easier to read, from us or from anyone else.

Common glass types, what they do and where they are used
Type What it is Where it is used
Annealed Ordinary float glass that has not been heat treated. It can be cut to size on site. Windows in locations where building code does not require safety glazing.
Tempered Heat treated so it is much stronger and breaks into small blunt pieces. It cannot be cut after treatment, so it is made to size. Doors, glass beside doors, bathrooms, shower enclosures, patio doors, railings, storefronts and glass below certain heights.
Laminated Two sheets bonded to a plastic interlayer. When it breaks the interlayer holds the pieces together. Noise reduction, security glazing, guard railings and anywhere a broken panel must stay in place.
Sealed unit, also called insulated glass Two or more panes bonded to a spacer with a sealed cavity between them. Made as one component to your exact size. Every double pane window and double glazed door. This is the component that fails when a window fogs up.
Why so much glass has to be made rather than cut

Tempered glass cannot be cut after it is treated, and a sealed unit is manufactured as a single component. Both are made to your measured size. That is why a measuring visit comes before an order, and why the honest answer to "can you do it today" for a large pane is usually that we can secure it today and fit the permanent glass once it has been made.

Questions

Questions about our glass services

Which glass services does Roxy Glass carry out itself?

Roxy Glass carries out all of the work listed on this page itself as a licensed C-17 glazing contractor. That covers window glass repair, foggy double pane sealed unit replacement, complete window replacement, shower doors and enclosures, patio and French door glass, mirrors and mirrored closet doors, glass railings and pool fences, storefront glass, office glass partitions, gym mirror walls and emergency board ups.

Do you do both residential and commercial glass?

Yes. Roxy Glass, Inc. works on homes and on commercial property across the Bay Area. Residential work is mostly windows, shower glass, mirrors and patio doors. Commercial work is mostly storefronts, office partitions, mirror walls and board ups. Glass railings are common in both.

Can you replace just the glass and leave my window in place?

In most cases yes. If the frame, sash and hardware are still sound, the glass alone is replaced and the window stays where it is. A complete new window is only needed when the frame itself has failed. If you are not sure which situation you are in, the problem finder on this page will tell you.

Do you charge for an estimate?

No. Estimates are free. Send measurements and a photo and we can often tell you what you are dealing with straight away, or we come out and measure the opening properly, which is what most jobs need before glass can be ordered.

Next step

Tell us what you need and we will point you at the right answer

If you are not sure which service applies, describe what you are looking at. We will tell you what it is, whether the glass alone can be replaced, and what the work involves.

Estimates are free. Tell us what broke, send a photo if you have one, and we will tell you whether it is a glass only repair or a full replacement before any work is booked.
